Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic
Reports To: Operation Manager
Department: Ferrous
Location: Lake Charles, LA

SUMMARY
Repairs and maintains machinery, heavy equipment, diesel trucks and other mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.

Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.

Requisitions and keeps supply of spare parts.

Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.

Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.

Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.

Repairs or replaces defective parts.

Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.

Lubricates and cleans parts.

Starts devices to test their performance.

Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, welding machine, cutting torches, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.

Recommends measures to improve equipment performance.

Maintains OSHA and EPA compliance for mechanic shop and waste oil areas.

Initiates purchase order for parts and machines.

Repairs electrical equipment.

Overhauls gas or diesel engines.

Directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.

Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.

Directs workers engaged in dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery.

Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.

Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop or work crew.

Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

Maintains repairs and maintenance records on equipment and DOT trucks.

Confers with supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

Must furnish all hand tools and secure storage.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or minimum five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Should maintain ASE certification. Hold a CDL Class "A" driver’s license and have appropriate endorsements that allow operation of all equipment and vehicles is a plus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $40.00 per hour
