The Marine Mechanic Supervisor is responsible for directing the work of subordinate marine mechanics in the repair and maintenance of pumps, hydraulic systems, auxiliary systems, and diesel engines within a marine environment. The ideal candidate will rely on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.


  • Responsible supervising marine mechanics during installation, repair, overhaul and maintenance of pumps, hydraulic systems, auxiliary systems, propulsion systems and diesel engines.
  • Attend production meetings and provide status updates to ship superintendents and/or project managers as needed.
  • Ensure that vessel mechanical projects are accomplished safely, efficiently and within shipyard policies and guidelines as well as all applicable local, State and Federal codes.
  • Direct mechanical work during the removal and reinstallation of conventional shaft and propeller systems, controlled pitch propeller systems, and various rudder assemblies including rudder stock, pintles, etc.
  • Provide rigging oversight to support required work scope.
  • Control and direct the activities of all vessel mechanic manpower for each project to ensure that work is accomplished to owner and regulatory body satisfaction, and within predetermined time constraints.
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations for conformance to design and equipment specifications, and operational and safety standards.


Ideal applicants must be capable of interpreting vessel specifications, blueprints and technical publications.  College degree in a related Engineering discipline required; Maritime college degree and/or domestic or international maritime license preferred; a minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or the combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.


Use of personal protective equipment such as respirators, hard hats and safety footwear is required while on work sites. Work will involve visiting work sites both indoors and outdoors at all times of the year.
