Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Store Manager                     

Position Summary

Repair a variety of automotive systems across many different types of vehicles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Know and live the “WHY” of Tate Boys Tire & Service
  2. Perform various automotive repair activities
  3. Perform repairs to specification – brake and hydraulic systems; conventional and advanced fuel systems; ignition systems; emission systems; electrical systems; air conditioning systems; steering/suspension systems and; wheel alignment
  4. Adequately explain mechanical diagnosis and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals, which may include teammates and customers on an as-needed/required basis
  5. Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions in order to stay or become proficient in automotive diagnosis and repair
  6. Keep store management informed of service repair issues as they occur
  7. Perform Vehicle Inspection/Courtesy Checks as required following the Tate Boys Tire & Service inspection procedures
  8. Maintain ASE Certification
  9. Maintain customer, employee and company confidentiality
  10. Other duties as assigned by management

Job Duty Details

  1. Customer Service Activities – 80%
    • Personally road test automobiles and perform Vehicle Inspection/Courtesy check on assigned vehicles following Tate Boys Tire Inspection Procedures and report finding, in writing, to sales staff
    • Perform tasks for which they are qualified in one of the following areas: breaks, electrical, engine performance, heating/AC and suspension/steering
    • Practice proficiency in the application of Tate Boys tire methods, standards and procedures
    • Advise car and truck owners, when necessary, concerning mechanical problems suggesting appropriate means of repair
    • Perform other duties as assigned or as required for the orderly management of the store, such as: removing, mounting and/or installing tires, shock absorbers, batteries and other automotive supplies and services; loading and unloading trucks requiring the movement of items weighing up to 100-pounds
    • Drive customer or company vehicles to drop-off and pick-up customers or automotive parts
  2. Miscellaneous Functions – 20%
    • Maintain service center standard of cleanliness, orderliness and appearance of space and equipment in the service department
    • Maintain operating efficiency of tools and store equipment – e.g. alignment machines, brake lathes, etc.
    • Comply with company safety policy and federal/state OSHA safety requirements which include, but not limited to, the wearing of approved eye protection, proper lifting techniques, proper footwear, etc.
    • Attend meetings as required

Supervision

The Mechanic will report directly to the Assistant Store Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Certifications:

  • Minimum requirement of a HS Diploma/GED
  • A.S.E. certified in specialized area of automotive system diagnosis and repair within two years of date-of-hire
  • Application federal/state/local certification/license

Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Customer-first attitude
  • Can perform all tasks of the positions as required by Store Manager
  • Strong ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people
  • Must have valid driver’s license and be able to road test automobiles
  • Can meet or exceed all goals assigned by management

Salary

Contingent upon education and experience
Full-Time: 40 hours per week       Part-Time: No Benefits
