AC Transit is actively recruiting for the position of Senior Body Mechanic. Under general supervision, the Senior Body Mechanic position, inspects and removes, repairs, adjusts and repairs metal, fiberglass, and glass components on buses, and all other types of District vehicles.

Experience: A minimum of one year as a skilled professional Body Repair Mechanic in a body shop specializing in heavy-duty body and fender repair. For INTERNAL CANDIDATES: successful completion of an auto body related certificate of achievement, or equivalent, from an accredited community college, vocational or technical school. Candidates must be able to demonstrate knowledge and ability to safely perform the functions of the job.
Additional Requirements: (1) Must pass a performance test of requisite skills, including the use of a plasma cutter, and MIG welding. (2) Must possess, or obtain and maintain all tools necessary to perform the functions of the classification. (3) Must pass a physical examination regarding the ability to use a respirator.
Desirable: A Certificate of training in MIG welding and/or ASE certification in automotive body repair. Three (3) years experience as a skilled professional Body Repair Mechanic.
Education: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade.
License Requirement: Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Class C Driver License, and meet the District’s safe driving standards
Applicants must meet the District's safe driving standards including: 21 years of age. 3 years of driving with a regular license. Not more than one (1) moving violation in the past three(3) years. No At-Fault accidents in the past three (3) years. No "Failures to Appear" or "Failures to Pay" in the last three (3) years. No suspensions in the last three (3) years. No Reckless Driving or DUI (driving under the influence) in the last seven (7) years.
Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical condition necessary to perform the following on a frequent or continual basis: stand, transport oneself from station to station in a large maintenance facility, safely access service bays, sit while reviewing or preparing work orders and other paperwork, bend, squat, stoop, turn, climb, kneel, twist, perform simple and power grasping, push, pull, perform fine hand and finger manipulations, safely lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to seventy (70) lbs., and use appropriate lifting equipment and techniques for heavier items.

Pension: All AC Transit employees participate in a lifetime defined benefit pension. All employees hired on or after January 1, 2020, may be in the District's Tier II pension plan covered by the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA).
