Pay Range: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

Position Summary:  

The primary job responsibilities of the Mechanic Level I/C is to be responsible and accountable for providing quality mechanical repairs and maintenance work up to their level of certification, utilizing all resources available within the shop area. The Mechanic Level I/C will provide ongoing preventive maintenance to include all emergency repairs and roadwork necessary. Performs maintenance and repairs on all fleet vehicles, including but not limited to diagnosing, disassembling and assembling components and engines. The primary objective of the Mechanic  Level I/C is to provide a safe, qualified shop environment for himself as well as other technicians while being available to answer questions both to the field personnel and supervisors. Must provide their own basic hand tools. Performs a range of minor service functions involving mechanical and basic electrical components. This class is the entry level class in the position and provides an opportunity to gain knowledge in the higher skills required in the level II and III positions. Incumbents will learn to use more specialized diagnostic equipment and gain greater independence of action on work assignments. Employee satisfies all of the requirements outlined as a Fleet Support Technician. 

Essential Functions:

The Mechanic Level I/A may be assigned one or more duties. These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:                     

  •           Replace bulbs/fuse as needed to complete functionality of associated system.
  •           Performed general preventative maintenance on all company vehicles: oil, oil filter, air filter, lubricate chassis and top off fluids.
  •           Replace drive belts, pulleys and pumps.
  •          Diagnose OBD-II codes with diagnostic tools, use repair guides and diagnostic tools: Xentry, IDS and MDI
  •           Brake repairs on disc brake systems and conventional drum brakes: Replace brake pads, Brake rotors, Hydro-boost brake systems
  •          Diagnose and repair suspension: shocks, wheel sensors, hub assemblies, mount and Balance tires.
  •          Coolant system repairs: water pumps, thermostats and hoses
  •         A/C  repairs:  Replace condensers, accumulators and evaporators, leak test/ evacuate and recharge.
  •          Diagnose, maintain, test and repair electrical systems’ components, ignition systems, alternators, high voltage power generators, starters and batteries.
  •          Engine: Replace, repair and remove engine and components under the supervision of a level II or level III mechanic.
  •          Transmission: Remove, repair and replace transmission components under the supervision of level II or level III mechanic.
  •          Maintain assigned work area and overall shop in clean and tidy manner at all times.
  •           Perform all assigned work in a safe and conscientious manner at all times as directed by Fleet Lead and Maintains safety standards.
  •          Handle and dispose of all fluids as defined by MSDS and in accordance with all Federal, State and local regulations.
  •          Create and maintain vehicle history and maintenance records as defined/directed by management.
  •          Perform safety inspections on all vehicles and ensure repair has been completed before vehicle is released from the shop. Ensure there are no open defects or upcoming preventative
  •          Perform duties assigned to you by fleet lead or fleet manager

The individual in this position must possess the following qualifications:         

  •          Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, teams, managers, supervisors, and external customers. Excellent ability to communicate and work cohesively across Department lines.
  •          Must have the ability to consistently deliver outstanding customer service to all internal and external customers.
  •          Strong organization skills and attentiveness to detail.
  •          Ability to maintain a professional manner and appearance at all times.
  •          Satisfactory driving record in accordance with Company Driving Policy.
  •          Current state driver’s license.
  •          At least 3 -5 years of experience repairing and performing preventative vehicle maintenance on emergency vehicles or equivalent. 

Education Requirements:

The individual in this position must possess the following education requirements:

  •          High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  •          1 - 2 ASE Certifications. The Employer expects one (1) to two (2) of the following four (4) preferred ASE Certifications (A5 Brakes, A6 Electrical, A7 Heating and AC and A9 Light Vehicle Diesel Engines) to be held and maintained.
