Primary Purpose:
Performs major and minor mechanical repairs with minimum supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Performs assigned work following established policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certification
High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or Regional Accrediting Agency)
Valid Texas driver’s license (A or B CDL) with the ability to obtain the P and S endorsement within 90 days of hire date
Ability to obtain the Bus Driver Certification from TEA within 90 days of hire date
Ability to obtain and maintain DOT physical yearly
Must have a driving record that is acceptable according to minimum standards adopted by DPS
Shall be subject to testing for use of alcohol or controlled substance that violate law or federal regulations
Ability to obtain TASBT certification within one year of hire date
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.
Required Experience:
Two (2) years’ direct experience in general repairs on trucks and/or buses
Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals in a professional manner
Must have or be able to obtain a State Vehicle Inspection Certification within 90 days of employment
Must pass annual medical examination per Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Diesel and Gas Diagnostic, maintenance and repair experience preferred

School bus and district vehicles. Computer, telephone, two-way radio, automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tire repair equipment, small hand tools, drills, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jack and lift equipment, and other equipment applicable to the position.
