Job Description

The Youth Career Advisor & Navigator supports young people who are out of school and out of work by connecting them to career opportunities through the Workforce1 Career Center system. This role provides one-on-one career guidance, helps youth prepare for job applications and interviews, and connects them to support services and training programs that build skills for in-demand careers. The advisor is also responsible for navigation services ensuring delivery with high quality, follow program guidelines, and contribute to broader workforce development efforts across the city.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service & Data Management

Maintain a high level of customer service satisfaction through responsive and respectful engagement.

Ensure timely and accurate data entry to support program performance and evaluation.

Adhere to all data privacy and confidentiality policies.

Orientation & Program Introduction

Conduct multiple daily in-person and virtual orientations to introduce youth to Workforce1 services.

Provide clear information on non-discrimination, equal opportunity, and grievance procedures.

Assessment & Career Planning

Conduct one-on-one assessments of jobseekers’ skills, experience, education, and training needs.

Develop Individual Employment Plans (IEPs) to guide youth toward relevant services and career pathways.

Determine and verify eligibility for WIOA and other workforce programs.

Candidate Preparation Services

Develop and deliver contextualized workshops on resume writing, interview preparation, computer literacy, job search strategies, career pathways, and job retention.

Ensure all preparation services are tailored to entry- and mid-level employment in target sectors.

Career Advisement

Provide individualized career counseling to support employment, training, and educational advancement.

Monitor progress and adjust plans to meet evolving career goals.

Supportive Services & Referrals

Connect youth to supportive services such as childcare, transportation, housing, food assistance, healthcare, and mental health services.

Facilitate benefits screenings for programs like SNAP, Medicaid, and other public assistance.

Collaborate with community-based organizations to provide wraparound services.

Assist youth in overcoming employment barriers, including those related to disability, language, or other challenges.

Occupational Training & ITG Support

Provide access to industry-recognized training programs leading to licenses or certifications in high-demand occupations.

Act as a neutral broker for Individual Training Grants (ITGs), guiding youth through employment goal selection, occupational research, and training provider selection.

Approve ITG vouchers for qualified candidates and inform youth about additional funding sources.

Participation in Workforce1 Priority Initiatives

Support citywide workforce development priorities, including:

Community Hiring Initiatives: Promote equitable hiring practices for local and underrepresented communities.

Sector-Focused Partnerships: Contribute to talent pipeline development in high-growth sectors.

Rapid Response and Recovery Efforts: Participate in projects addressing urgent workforce needs.

Technology Innovations: Supporting testing and scaling of tools that improve service delivery and outcomes.

Data and Outcome Sharing: Share program results, promising practices, and lessons learned to enhance city wide learning.

Qualifications

Ability to maintain flexibility as needs of contract or contractor require
A working knowledge of MS Office and Google docs
Two years of experience in career advisement and development, workshop facilitation, developing workforce curriculum, public speaking and content development
Ability to prioritize tasks and document visits and contacts
Demonstrated telephone, computer and strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to thrive in environments with multiple stakeholders, frequent change, and diverse objectives
Professional understanding of a vast array of occupations and career paths, ideally including those in the healthcare field
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, social services, healthcare and/or communications and/or a combination of combined education and experience.
Customer service experience required
