Improving Your Resume for the Auto Industry

To stand out in the auto industry, your resume should highlight technical expertise, results-driven experience, and relevant certifications.  Don't forget to include the basics on your resume: Name, phone number and email address.

1. Highlight Technical Skills & Tools 

Don't just list your skills; be specific about the systems and tools you've mastered.

  • Be Specific with Mechanical/Technical Skills: Instead of simply writing "Auto Repair," list specialized knowledge.  Example: Diagnostic software (Techstream, VIDA, VAG-COM), engine rebuilds, ABS system service, full-frame alignment etc.
  • Specify Equipment Proficiency: Mention the specific tools and equipment you're proficient with. Example: Proficient in using Snap-on scan tools, diagnostic multimeters, plasma cutters, and MIG welding equipment.
  • Focus on Modern Technology: Emphasize experience with modern vehicle systems.      Example: Experience with Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibration and repair, Hybrid/EV battery maintenance, and CAN bus network diagnosis.

2. Quantify Your Accomplishments 

Use numbers and percentages to demonstrate the impact of your work, not just your duties.
