Under general supervision, to perform a variety of skilled inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, servicing, and repair work on gas, propane, and diesel power driven equipment; and to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the advanced working level in the Mechanic series. Incumbents perform a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work on City automotive, emergency service, small engine, and landscape maintenance equipment as well as heavy power-driven equipment and busses. This class is distinguished from Mechanic I in that Mechanic II incumbents perform mechanical work on heavy construction equipment, busses, or equipment having hydraulic systems. Incumbents in this class are subject to twenty-four hour “call out.”
