  •   Primary Job FunctionsAssist the Head Transportation Mechanic in the repair and maintenance of corporation owned transportation equipment. 

    Salary Lane:  ASBSM - Hourly pay starting at $25.75.
     
    FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
     
    Assigned Workday Calendar:   Full Year-Round
     
    Job Status:  Full-Time – 40 Hours per Week
     
    Schedule:  Monday – Friday
     
    Benefits:  Full-time positions are eligible for medical, dental insurance as well as supplemental benefits such as vision, life insurance, disability, etc. Eligible for fully school-funded PERF Retirement.

    Qualifications:
     
    • Education: High School diploma is required.
    • Certification:  None is required but willingness to begin training for mechanic status is preferred. Willingness to obtain CDL and School Bus Driver Certification and drive bus routes, as needed, is preferred.
    • Experience:  At least two years in this field or related field preferred. If experience is less than 2 years, must demonstrate a willingness to be instructed by and learn from experienced supervisors. Some experience in traffic control is preferred.
    • Skills and Knowledge: Accepts direction from the supervisor(s) and receive training and work in conjunction with the Avon Police Department in traffic control. Must be conscientious, punctual and dependable. 
    • Other:  Ability to maintain a positive relationship with pu­pils, staff, parents, and the community.
     
    Essential Functions:
     
    • Assist shop personnel with bus inspections.
    • Report accidents or damage to buses immediately to Transportation management staff.
    • Clean, fuel and examine buses daily.
    • Grease and change oil in buses as scheduled.
    • Complete a “Bus Maintenance and Repair” each time a bus is repaired; it will provide a written record of parts and supplies used.
    • Direct traffic at assigned locations, as needed.
    • Clean and maintain the wash bay area.
    • Keep front area of the work bay doors clear of vehicles and equipment.
    • Report problems with equipment or bus drivers to Transportation management in a timely manner.
    • Maintain an organized parts storage room.
    • Notify management in the event of theft or vandalism.
    • Maintain an open line of communication between Transportation Director and/or Transportation Coordinator and shop personnel.
    • Assist shop personnel in transporting buses to and from repair shops.
    • Be an example of exemplary adult behavior for students.
    • Participate in professional development, as assigned.
    • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
     
    Physical Demands:


    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
