  C/R MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

· Checks for daily assignments. If no assignment is written, Mechanic enters where he/she will be working. Regularly updates assignment board to reflect changes of assigned areas. 

· Makes preventative maintenance inspections and performs preventative maintenance tasks. Assists in updating preventative maintenance procedures to ensure periodic equipment maintenance needs are met. 

· Trouble shoots and makes repairs on most facility equipment. May involve Maintenance Supervisor when working on complex equipment. 

· Ensures all supporting paperwork for each task performed is complete & accurate. Documentation should reflect time spent (start time, completion time, actual hours); date completed; parts used; comments explaining procedure used to complete task; and any other pertinent information. 

· Performs minor plumbing repairs on water steam, and air lines and cleans drains as required. 

· Paints, plasters, repairs, and installs ceramic tile on walls & floors as required. Basic wall papering skills. 

· Performs repair welding using gas and/or electric tools. Must be able to perform basic brazing with soft solder, silver solder, steel rod, and stainless rod. Must have basic arc welding skills to be able to weld thin gauge material. 

· Ensures all work orders are satisfactorily closed out and supporting data is entered, also ensuring that all parts used are removed from physical inventory. 

· Works on an “on-call” schedule to meet the 24-hour repair needs of the community on a rotating schedule with other mechanics. 

· May on occasion lead the work of other Facilities Services Maintenance staff. 

· Keeps work areas neat and clean. Regularly inspects remote storage areas for stock depletion and informs the Purchasing/ Inventory Clerk. 

· Performs other duties as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED with three (3) years’ experience as a mechanic with demonstrable skills in the various trades. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS: Employee has no responsibility for others. 

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: The employee is required to ensure personal safety, monitor work environment and make necessary improvements while ensuring the safety of others to include, adhering to regulations set by OSHA, DOH, and facility regulations, to include fire protection/prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc. Tasks involved in this position may involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals.
