DEFINITION
Under limited supervision, performs fleet maintenance services involving the maintenance and repair of cars, light trucks, small engines and light and heavy equipment; performs a variety of tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Perform other duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the Journey level class in the mechanic series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Mechanic I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned with no supervisory responsibility. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.

Education, Training and Experience
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair or a related field.
One year of responsible fleet maintenance experience.
Licenses and Certificates
When driving is a requirement of the classification: A valid State driver license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Texas Commercial driver's license preferred.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, ASE and/or EVT certifications preferred.
